Historical Pediments of Chand Baori

Chand Baori is actually a stepwell which is located within the hamlet of Abhaneri near Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is believed that it’s amongst the most renowned and overlooked site in the country mostly because of its pattern and structure that reflects the true art of pre historic era.

Being one of the oldest and allured dynamic stepwells of Rajasthan it is believed to be amongst the biggest stepwell in the world and that is enough to tell us regarding an importance of this landmark. Chand Boari which is nothing but a well is 10 stories 100 ft deep and square in structure and the steps you will witness around the wall are double flight.

Established during 8th and 9th century the stepwell is profiled with 3500 narrow steps which are arranged in equal flank and well connected till the bottom. As per the history it is believed that the site was commissioned by King Chanda of Nikumbha Dynasty, with an objective to provide water facility to everyone and it was supposed to be the source of the local people until the modern equipments arrived in replacing this historical site.

Although the green water of the base are used by no one but still it reflects the wisdom of the King Chanda who with his kind objective initiated the project and completed it by making it one of the most splendid and chronological sites of the entire Rajasthan.

Dedicated to the goddess of Happiness and joy, Hashat Mata the site has a temple that adjoins the crest of the stepwell. When it comes to the structuring the site one must know the story of the area. Since we all know Rajasthan is an arid area and during the reign of King Chanda he felt the need of the stepwell because most of the people around were feeling the pinch of it so to rescue the people from such dread condition he initiated the approach and formed this amazing stepwell.

Talking about logic behind creating the triangular steps that reflects the complexity of Geometry has an astounding reason and so far history have explained it, the running structure was made for people to have quick access to water and behind manoeuvring the depth the history says they had an intention to preserve the water and also to keep it cool during the intense fall of summer.

The steps around the stepwell are carved with religious and sculptural beauty and because of its long drawn history that dates back an era of 1000 centuries the site is now managed and administered by Archaeological survey of India.

So come here and relive the moment of history as the site reflects the glory of wisdom over drastic situation.
